TEACHING

Choreography & Performance Workshops

Shayna aims to make learning experiences accessible and personally relevant to participants. Her classes foster creative exploration and curiosity, and support students in the realization of ambitious undertakings. She considers the learning space a laboratory where each risk taken is a new success, and where collaboration is key to making projects work.

In choreography workshops, Shayna encourages participants to explore new ways of approaching the theory and practice of dance-making. Using creative games, open scores and chance procedures, students improvise and choreograph set material to integrate new methods into their compositional toolboxes.

Shayna’s dance technique classes are designed to help movers find dynamism, awareness and freedom within the body. In each exercise, students are asked to articulate spatial and rhythmic structures, cultivate gestural specificity and play boldly with gravity and momentum. Her classes incorporate a wide range of practices from sources as varied as Ghanaian dance, post-modern dance, Contact Improvisation and yoga.

Yoga Instruction

Shayna began studying yoga in 2004, when her dance practice led her to explore new techniques for investigating the  interconnectedness of body and mind. She went on to complete her YogaWorks teacher training (RYT200) with Sarah Bell and Chrissy Carter in 2007. Since then Shayna has been teaching Hatha Yoga in studios, community centers, gyms and privately throughout Connecticut and the Los Angeles area. Her classes integrate the energy of flow with an intelligent focus on alignment and harmony with the breath. Shayna has worked with students of all ages and levels of experience, including children, college students, rock climbers and active seniors.

Shayna offers private lessons for individuals and small groups, focusing on each student’s needs with specialized sequencing and hands-on adjustments. For private lesson availability and rates, please contact Shayna via email at shayna.keller@gmail.com.
